September: Insecure Writer’s Support Group

How do you find time to write in your busy day?

This month question from the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. It is a great place to meet people, we support and motivate each other. If you like the idea you can join here.

The very first thing I do when I wake up is eat my breakfast. Straight away afterwards I start to write. I do not have my shower, I do not wash my face or my teeth. My weekly goal is to write 5000 words into my Work in Progress. I work on my WIP Monday to Friday, weekends off. I try to write 1500 words in my morning session. If I don’t reach it, that is okay for me. This week, I wrote 989 words on Monday, 1352 words on Tuesday, and today I wrote 1564 words. If I write my daily count tomorrow then I will have surpassed my 5000 words goal for this week.

My WIP is my most important writing task. I spend the rest of the day doing whatever needs to be done. Then, if I have the time, I try to write a 500 word story that is not connected to my WIP. Or I edit a previous 500 word story.

At the weekend I will jot out a poem. And that is when I write my blog post.
This is my routine for the moment, it seems to work well for me. It has taken a long time to figure this routine out. A lot of failures, but sure that’s what it’s all about!

Being a morning person, this is also when I prefer to get my writing done. I try to avoid emails and the internet as it’s too distracting and save that for later. It’s good that you are working to a quota and that’s it’s working for you – I’m still trying to master that skill! Thanks for stopping by my blog, it’s good to meet you. 🙂

    • Thank you for stopping by too 🙂 If I write my 1500 words now (in ten minutes, I promise I’ll start!) it will be the first time in 3 months that I hit my 5000 word goal. Every word I add, adds up. Even if I miss some days, that’s ok. I think the most important thing is to move on from the past. Accept it and keep going.
