Recurring dream

This is a recurring dream
usually ends with a scream.
I walk through my old neighbourhood
greeting people from my childhood

I arrive at our gate
take a deep breath and wait,
I notice a delivery truck
hopefully I will have some good luck.

A man jumps down
wearing a slight frown,
‘Bonjour?’ he questions
my heart quickens.

I hold a conversation
with this Frenchman,
he is so friendly
I feel completely carefree.

I like the new theme
of this old dream,
the last time I ventured
here, I was murdered.

Maybe, it is time to say goodbye
to that dream, that made me cry.
I wake up feeling confused.
Now, I am rather amused.

In your own way
today is the day,
whether gay or straight,
that you get to celebrate.

Go enjoy your union
and avoid the taxman
get married to your loved one,
the Irish have won!
